In the morning as they passed by, they saw the fig tree withered away to its roots. Then Peter remembered and said to him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree that you cursed has withered.” Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God. Truly I tell you, if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and if you do not doubt in your heart but believe that what you say will come to pass, it will be done for you. So I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. “Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.” (Mark 11:20-25, NRSVue)
Whatever you ask in prayer, believe, and it is yours. Well. Really?
If I just have faith and believe I have it it will be mine if I ask for it in prayer?
Other places add that it is if it is the will of God. Sometimes we ask for things that we really want and think we need, but they are not in the will of God, and I think that no matter how much you believe or have faith, you will get it; if it is not God’s will, it ain’t going to happen.
I believe and have faith, yet some of the things I want and have wanted over the years are not in God’s will. And that is a growing edge for me and all of us.
Believe God will never leave you to suffer through life alone. And have faith that you are always loved. But know your will is not God’s, and your desires may not be part of the plan. And that my friend is ok.
You will be ok, because you are loved deeply.
Believe.
