When Jesus became aware of this, he departed. Many followed him, and he cured all of them, and he ordered them not to make him known. This was to fulfill what had been spoken through the prophet Isaiah:
“Here is my servant, whom I have chosen,
my beloved, with whom my soul is well pleased.
I will put my Spirit upon him,
and he will proclaim justice to the gentiles.
He will not wrangle or cry aloud,
nor will anyone hear his voice in the streets.
He will not break a bruised reed
or quench a smoldering wick
until he brings justice to victory.
And in his name the gentiles will hope.” (Matthew 12:15-21, NRSVue)
People have a way of getting in the way of God.
This passage starts, “When Jesus became aware of this, he departed.” When Jesus became aware of what? Verse 12:14 says, “But the Pharisees went out and conspired against him, how to destroy him.” People in religious leadership were actively getting in the way of God and God’s plan.
How often does this happen today?
How many times have I gotten in God’s way? I would be dishonest if I said I never got in God’s way, because I’m sure I have. We all fall short and need to rely on grace.
When do we put a block before God? How can we empty ourselves so that we see God’s will and plan and follow in line and assist rather than detract?
