All who have sinned apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged in accordance with the law. For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous in God’s sight but the doers of the law who will be justified. When gentiles, who do not possess the law, by nature do what the law requires, these, though not having the law, are a law to themselves. They show that what the law requires is written on their hearts, as their own conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts will accuse or perhaps excuse them on the day when, according to my gospel, God through Christ Jesus judges the secret thoughts of all. (Romans 2:12-16, NRSVue)
You are doomed. If you do not know the law you will sin and perish apart from the law, but if you know the law you sin and be judged by the law. Damned if you do, and damned if you don’t.
Our conscience sets us to know we are not being or doing what we should be or do. Paul said it best I don’t do what I want to do and I do do what I do not want to do.
We will perish apart from God. Jesus will judge us, and yet still love us. We will stand is court for all we have done and failed to do, and yet we will be proclaimed unperishable because of the love of God.
