Many people have already applied themselves to the task of compiling an account of the events that have been fulfilled among us. They used what the original eyewitnesses and servants of the word handed down to us. Now, after having investigated everything carefully from the beginning, I have also decided to write a carefully ordered account for you, most honorable Theophilus. I want you to have confidence in the soundness of the instruction you have received. (Luke 1:1-4, CEB)
Who is the most honorable Theophilus?
Is this an actual person? They are named at the beginning of Luke and the beginning of Acts.
Here is the thing, Theo means God and Philus means love. So Theophilus is literally a lover of God. So it might be an actual person, or it might be you, meaning it is anyone who loves God.
I would like to think there was a person named Theophilus. But that it is also written to all of us.
Love God and love people, and shine a light into the world that gives everyone grace and mercy! Showing the world you are Theophilus!
