Keep Awake

32“But about that day or hour no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33Beware, keep alert; for you do not know when the time will come. 34It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his slaves in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to be on the watch. 35Therefore, keep awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrow, or at dawn, 36or else he may find you asleep when he comes suddenly. 37And what I say to you I say to all: Keep awake.” (Mark 13:32-37, NRSV)

No one knows when the end will come except the Father, not even Jesus.

I remember in seminary in our advanced Greek Class, yes I was a nerd even in seminary, we figured out when the world would end through all of the clues given in the Bible and I actually forget when it was but we got something like 2 or 3 thousand years from now. That was just for fun, but why do we worry about this?

I mean if Jesus is coming back isn’t that better than being here?

Not that I’m ready to leave. But isn’t Jesus coming back better than anything that can happen to us here?

Just watch and be ready.

  1. In these days of COVID-19, there are times where we realize we are not in control of anything and that it is through our faith that we stay prepared and diligent in our daily work to show and be Jesus to those we encounter. As I read the verses you shared, it made me think about how easy it is right now to get distracted with all the negative things going on but we must stay focused on our call and the assured gift of everlasting life and keep our eyes set on the “prize” so to speak!
Peace and Good Health to you and your family!
