Why did I do that???

HAve you ever done something and thought, “Why did I do that?”  I mean really you did something that is completely out of character for you, and you really wonder how it is you did that.  We sometimes hurt people we love and do not even realize we are doing it, because of the stupid things we do.

Paul talked about it when he said he wished he would stop doing the things he knows he shouldn’t do and do the things he should do.  We are all that way and we have all been there.

But then there is that nagging thing, that you did, that you can’t believe you did.  You ask the person you hurt for forgiveness, and they forgive you, but it does not go away.  That feeling of why did I do that, why did I hurt that person in that way… What do we do with these feelings?  How do we handle this?

We all beat ourselves up for the things that we have done, but is there ever a time when this is warranted?  Is there ever a thing that you do that you should beat yourself up over?

What is that thing that is keeping us from living the life Jesus has called us to and giving it completely over to Him so we do not have to say, “Why did I do that?”

  1. “Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me – a sinner.”

That (or something like it) is one of the oldest prayers. While it is good to recognize our brokenness – it is equally…even MORE important to live and proclaim the healing and forgiveness offered in Christ Jesus.

To beat ourselves relentlessly is to focus only on ourselves and our sin(s). It is often a sick form of egotism.

Love to you and your family. Thanks for blogging today.

    1. Thank you Todd, for reminding us all that we are sinful, and can only hope to move forward in the love and forgiveness of Christ.

Yes Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me – a sinner!
