Praise!

161014Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth.
Worship the LORD with gladness;
come into his presence with singing.
Know that the LORD is God.
It is he that made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him, bless his name.
For the LORD is good;
his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.
(Psalm 100, NRSV)

Come into his presence with singing!

Be thankful and praising for God is a great God and worthy to be praised and thanked for the many wonderful blessings we have received!

Praise the Lord!

David gives thanks!

161013They brought in the ark of God, and set it inside the tent that David had pitched for it; and they offered burnt offerings and offerings of well-being before God. When David had finished offering the burnt offerings and the offerings of well-being, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD; and he distributed to every person in Israel—man and woman alike—to each a loaf of bread, a portion of meat, and a cake of raisins.  He appointed certain of the Levites as ministers before the ark of the LORD, to invoke, to thank, and to praise the LORD, the God of Israel. Asaph was the chief, and second to him Zechariah, Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel, with harps and lyres; Asaph was to sound the cymbals, and the priests Benaiah and Jahaziel were to blow trumpets regularly, before the ark of the covenant of God. Then on that day David first appointed the singing of praises to the LORD by Asaph and his kindred. O give thanks to the LORD, call on his name, make known his deeds among the peoples.  Sing to him, sing praises to him, tell of all his wonderful works.  Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice. Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his presence continually. Remember the wonderful works he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he uttered, O offspring of his servant Israel, children of Jacob, his chosen ones. He is the LORD our God; his judgments are in all the earth. Remember his covenant forever, the word that he commanded, for a thousand generations, the covenant that he made with Abraham, his sworn promise to Isaac, which he confirmed to Jacob as a statute, to Israel as an everlasting covenant, saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan as your portion for an inheritance.” When they were few in number, of little account, and strangers in the land, wandering from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another people, he allowed no one to oppress them; he rebuked kings on their account, saying, “Do not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm.” Sing to the LORD, all the earth. Tell of his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples. For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; he is to be revered above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but the LORD made the heavens. Honor and majesty are before him; strength and joy are in his place. Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.  Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; bring an offering, and come before him. Worship the LORD in holy splendor; tremble before him, all the earth. The world is firmly established; it shall never be moved. Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice, and let them say among the nations, “The LORD is king!” Let the sea roar, and all that fills it; let the field exult, and everything in it. Then shall the trees of the forest sing for joy before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth. O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever. Say also: “Save us, O God of our salvation, and gather and rescue us from among the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name, and glory in your praise. Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting.”  Then all the people said “Amen!” and praised the LORD. (1 Chronicles 16:1-36, NRSV)

The ark of God came to be with David and he gave thanks by dancing and singing and appointing people to give offerings.

They praised the Lord for all He had done for them.

Are we ready to do the same?

The Lord does it

161012Hannah prayed and said, “My heart exults in the LORD; my strength is exalted in my God. My mouth derides my enemies, because I rejoice in my victory. “There is no Holy One like the LORD, no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God. Talk no more so very proudly, let not arrogance come from your mouth; for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed. The bows of the mighty are broken, but the feeble gird on strength. Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread, but those who were hungry are fat with spoil. The barren has borne seven, but she who has many children is forlorn. The LORD kills and brings to life; he brings down to Sheol and raises up. The LORD makes poor and makes rich; he brings low, he also exalts. He raises up the poor from the dust; he lifts the needy from the ash heap, to make them sit with princes and inherit a seat of honor. For the pillars of the earth are the LORD’S, and on them he has set the world. “He will guard the feet of his faithful ones, but the wicked shall be cut off in darkness; for not by might does one prevail. The LORD! His adversaries shall be shattered; the Most High will thunder in heaven. The LORD will judge the ends of the earth; he will give strength to his king, and exalt the power of his anointed.” (1 Samuel 2:1-10, NRSV)

Hanna prayed about all of the things God had done for her. And not only her but God’s people.

You see God raises the lowly.

God lifts up the weighed down.

God fixes the broken.

God feeds the hungry.

God brings the lifeless to life.

We all have reasons to pray and thank God for who He is and what He has done for all of us!

Remember

161011You shall eat your fill and bless the LORD your God for the good land that he has given you. Take care that you do not forget the LORD your God, by failing to keep his commandments, his ordinances, and his statutes, which I am commanding you today. When you have eaten your fill and have built fine houses and live in them, and when your herds and flocks have multiplied, and your silver and gold is multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied, then do not exalt yourself, forgetting the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, who led you through the great and terrible wilderness, an arid wasteland with poisonous snakes and scorpions. He made water flow for you from flint rock, and fed you in the wilderness with manna that your ancestors did not know, to humble you and to test you, and in the end to do you good. Do not say to yourself, “My power and the might of my own hand have gotten me this wealth.” But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, so that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your ancestors, as he is doing today. (Deuteronomy 8:10-18, NRSV)

Take care that you do not forget his commandments, his ordinances, and his statutes.

Remember who God is and what God has done for you.

Do not say you have got you to this point, that it was all your doing, by your power and might.

Remember who God is and what God has done for you!

Thanksgiving

161010As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.  See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the universe, and not according to Christ. For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have come to fullness in him, who is the head of every ruler and authority. In him also you were circumcised with a spiritual circumcision, by putting off the body of the flesh in the circumcision of Christ; when you were buried with him in baptism, you were also raised with him through faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead. And when you were dead in trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive together with him, when he forgave us all our trespasses, erasing the record that stood against us with its legal demands. He set this aside, nailing it to the cross. He disarmed the rulers and authorities and made a public example of them, triumphing over them in it. (Colossians 2:6-15, NRSV)

Live your life established in faith abounding in thanksgiving!

In everything give thanks!

You were dead in your trespasses and in the ways of your life, but Christ made you alive to God, and so in that and everything give thanks.

Christ is always walking with you.

So triumph over life with God!

Are you grateful?

161009On the way to Jerusalem Jesus was going through the region between Samaria and Galilee. As he entered a village, ten lepers approached him. Keeping their distance, they called out, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” When he saw them, he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were made clean. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice. He prostrated himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him. And he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus asked, “Were not ten made clean? But the other nine, where are they? Was none of them found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” Then he said to him, “Get up and go on your way; your faith has made you well.” (Luke 17:11-19, NRSV)

Jesus was on His way to Jerusalem in what we would call no man’s land.

And there He saw 10 people with skin disease, and before they proved themselves worthy of healing, He told them to go and show themselves to the priest, which is what they needed to do to be accepted back into community. You see with w skin disease they were put out of community because they were thought to be contagious. So in order to return to life in community, the priest had to clear them, and say they were healed. So Jesus sent them to be restored to community.

And as they went they realized they were made clean.

And 1 of the 10, turned around and went back to Jesus and thanked Him.

And because he went back and thanked Jesus, Jesus said, “your faith has made you well.” So this one was cleansed, and had faith, and was made well.

Makes me wonder what we are grateful for?

There is a lot in the world today to be fearful of.

There is a lot in the world today to be angry about.

There is a lot in the world today to be frustrated about.

We all have lots of things we regret.

We all have apprehensions.

We all grieve something we did or did not do.

But when we get hung up on the negatives, all we will see is the negatives.

What do you have in your life to be grateful for?

And have you said thank you to God yet today for all of your blessings?

Be grateful for your blessings, and count them, and count on God to continue to help you through all the troubles ahead.

Everlasting Rock

161008On that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah:
We have a strong city;
he sets up victory
like walls and bulwarks.
Open the gates,
so that the righteous nation that keeps faith
may enter in.
Those of steadfast mind you keep in peace—
in peace because they trust in you.
Trust in the LORD forever,
for in the LORD GOD
you have an everlasting rock.
For he has brought low
the inhabitants of the height;
the lofty city he lays low.
He lays it low to the ground,
casts it to the dust.
The foot tramples it,
the feet of the poor,
the steps of the needy.
The way of the righteous is level;
O Just One, you make smooth the path of the righteous.
In the path of your judgments,
O LORD, we wait for you;
your name and your renown
are the soul’s desire.
My soul yearns for you in the night,
my spirit within me earnestly seeks you.
For when your judgments are in the earth,
the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.
(Isaiah 26:1-9, NRSV)

In God we have an everlasting rock.

Well even rocks are not everlasting. Weather erodes rocks over time, and they will get smaller, because of wind and rain.

But the foundation of the Lord will never shift. It will never change.

God will always be there to put our trust in.

He raises the lowly and gives shelter and rest to all who seek Him.

So trust in God, He will not let you down.

Trust in the Lord

161007Do not fret because of the wicked;
do not be envious of wrongdoers,
for they will soon fade like the grass,
and wither like the green herb.
Trust in the LORD, and do good;
so you will live in the land, and enjoy security.
Take delight in the LORD,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the LORD;
trust in him, and he will act.
He will make your vindication shine like the light,
and the justice of your cause like the noonday.
Be still before the LORD, and wait patiently for him;
do not fret over those who prosper in their way,
over those who carry out evil devices.
Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath.
Do not fret—it leads only to evil.
For the wicked shall be cut off,
but those who wait for the LORD shall inherit the land.
(Psalm 37:1-9, NRSV)

Do not seek vindication for anything, but treat everyone with respect.

Or as Tim McGraw says, “Always stay humble and kind.”

It takes nothing for us to treat every person as we want to be treated. Treated with respect.

Hold the door.

Say Please.

Say Thank you.

If it isn’t yours do not take it.

Do not cheat in any way or on anything.

Do not lie.

If you are respectful of yourself and of others and believe the promises God has given us, He will bless you, now and forever more.

endurance

161006My brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of any kind, consider it nothing but joy, because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance; and let endurance have its full effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking in nothing. If any of you is lacking in wisdom, ask God, who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and it will be given you. But ask in faith, never doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind; for the doubter, being double-minded and unstable in every way, must not expect to receive anything from the Lord.  Let the believer who is lowly boast in being raised up, and the rich in being brought low, because the rich will disappear like a flower in the field. For the sun rises with its scorching heat and withers the field; its flower falls, and its beauty perishes. It is the same way with the rich; in the midst of a busy life, they will wither away. (James 1:2-11, NRSV)

If you lack anything ask God for it and He will provide it for you. Now He may not give it to you. If you ask for patience He may put you in a situation where you need to be patient…

And that is where testing your faith comes in and endurance is produced. And as the picture says, “Endurance is not just the ability to bear a hard thing but to turn it into Glory.”

Endurance leads to God being glorified in our lives, and He is always with you!

Faith

161005On the following day, when they came from Bethany, he was hungry. Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to see whether perhaps he would find anything on it. When he came to it, he found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. He said to it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard it. Then they came to Jerusalem. And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who were selling and those who were buying in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves; and he would not allow anyone to carry anything through the temple. He was teaching and saying, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations’? But you have made it a den of robbers.” And when the chief priests and the scribes heard it, they kept looking for a way to kill him; for they were afraid of him, because the whole crowd was spellbound by his teaching. And when evening came, Jesus and his disciples went out of the city. In the morning as they passed by, they saw the fig tree withered away to its roots. Then Peter remembered and said to him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree that you cursed has withered.” Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God. Truly I tell you, if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and if you do not doubt in your heart, but believe that what you say will come to pass, it will be done for you. So I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. (Mark 11:12-24, NRSV)

It was not the season for figs, yet Jesus still cursed the fig tree because there was no fruit?

“if you do not doubt in your heart, but believe that what you say will come to pass, it will be done for you.”

I think we have all prayed for something and truly believed in our heart it was something that could happen, and it didn’t happen. So if I do not believe in what I ask it can’t happen?

Now don’t get me wrong the power of positive thoughts is something, but things have happened in my life that I wondered if they would happen, and God provided.

I think the money changers smashed in between the cursing and the believing is a sign that our outlook can not be for our own gain.

We will get what we ask for when it is not for our own gain but is for others. To be honest I wonder about this text. Becuase by this text if you believe it will be given, so if it wasn’t given you didn’t believe.

Not saying belief is not important, but if I doubt will God forget about me?

Keep the faith in the promises God has made and make your requests and if it is in His will, it will be done. And remember God’s ways and plans are much greater than ours, and we may not understand now, but all will be made clear in time.
