For as in one body we have many members, and not all the members have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another. We have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us: prophecy, in proportion to faith; ministry, in ministering; the teacher, in teaching; the exhorter, in exhortation; the giver, in generosity; the leader, in diligence; the compassionate, in cheerfulness. (Romans 12:4-8, NRSV)
In the body there a lot of parts…
Gray’s Anatomy of the Human Body has over 13,000 entries…
And are there parts we can live without?
We can live with only one kidney.
We have many members of society that do not have their tonsils, or appendix, or thyroid, or pineal glands…
But do you know that each of these “useless” parts of the body actually do serve a function.
The tonsils protect the throat from infection, as well as the rest of the body.
The appendix lessens the chances of a person getting leukemia, Hodgkin’s disease, cancer of the colon and cancer of the ovaries.
These parts once thought useless are being shown to actually have a part.
Just as each of us has a part on the body of Christ. We are all needed and none of us are to think of ourselves more highly than we ought.
We are all a part of the body of Christ and we need each other, and are dependent on the other to be there to do their part.
