Transgression speaks to the wicked
deep in his heart;
there is no fear of God
before his eyes.
For he flatters himself in his own eyes
that his iniquity cannot be found out and hated.
The words of his mouth are trouble and deceit;
he has ceased to act wisely and do good.
He plots trouble while on his bed;
he sets himself in a way that is not good;
he does not reject evil.

Transgression speaks to the wicked deep in his heart… This text is disputed, and the ESV has a footnote for this verse which reads, “Some Hebrew manuscripts, Syriac, Jerome (compare Septuagint); most Hebrew manuscripts in my heart” So some of the manuscripts say in his heart, but most of them say in My Heart!
It is in my heart that transgressions speaks… And I am wicked! I am evil and I have a hard time turning away from the sin I feel led to do. I think we are all there and are only lying to ourselves if we say otherwise. Paul even said that the things he wants to do he does not do and the things he does not want to do he does. We all fight with sin, because it speaks to us in the inner most portions of our being. We are seduced by it and think it is ok, because it comes from deep within us. We are led astray by our own desires wants, and needs. My heart is wicked and filled with transgressions that speak to me and move me to do things I know I shouldn’t do…
Yet I have fear of God. I fear what God will do to me, so am I too far gone?
By recognizing the sin that fills us and knowing that we do what we shouldn’t we still have good before our eyes, and see God for who He is, and fear Him. Never lose the fear of God, or know that you are going down the wrong path. Many of our early church fathers questioned their salvation, and wondered at the mysteries of God. Martin Luther the champion of our understanding that we are saved by grace through faith and not by works questioned if he had done enough to get into heaven. We all question and doubt and sin, just do not ever lose the fear of God, it is what keeps you on the right track…
