I thank my God every time I remember you, constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you, because of your sharing in the gospel from the first day until now. I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ. It is right for me to think this way about all of you, because you hold me in your heart, for all of you share in God’s grace with me, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel. For God is my witness, how I long for all of you with the compassion of Christ Jesus. And this is my prayer, that your love may overflow more and more with knowledge and full insight to help you to determine what is best, so that on the day of Christ you may be pure and blameless, having produced the harvest of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ for the glory and praise of God. (Philippians 1:3-11)
Thanksgiving is a time to remember our blessings!
All of us have been blessed by God with many wonderful blessings in our lives, and in our day to day lives we may forget the many blessings we have.
So take some time this month as you gather with family and friends to remember the blessings you have, and to share them with others. The blessings we have been given are a way that God shows us His love and reminds us how much He cares for us.
Paul’s words to the Philippians reminds us to be thankful for our community and to pray joyfully for all of our brothers and sisters and to share in the work of the gospel with the community we have been blessed with. And this is my prayer, that your love may overflow more and more… That your love may overflow. Not the emotion that we think love is, but the actual love of God that is in you the action of showing others the care you have received from God. Giving to the other over yourself, and looking out for the need of the other over our self.
I am blessed to be in Victoria and a part of this community. Remember to count your blessings – not to puff yourself up, but to show you how much you have been given to share!
