Joshua is getting ready to lead the people of Israel, who had been wandering in the wilderness into the promised land, and he is probably a bit apprehensive,I think I would be to. But God does not tell him, “just wear the right power tie, and the people will see you are confident in your clothing choices and therefore you will be a good leader.” No. God tells him, “Be strong and of good courage; be not frightened, neither be dismayed; for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” God gives Joshua a power tie that will not fade, and will not fail.
And in the Gospel, God offers us all a power tie in the Holy Spirit. This is a 24/7 tie to the creator of the universe, your Father in heaven. The power tie we wear is an image, it is an illusion, but the power tie God gives us is reality!
God never intended us to go and save the world on our own. He wants to do his work through us. Pick the power tie that is real, and live in the reality of the love that God gives you, not in the illusion of what you hope will be. God gives you the power tie of the Holy Spirit, and wants to be with you wherever you go.
